AMAZING RACE – 12/2/12

Next, the teams hit the Detour. The choice was “Spin it” or “Bull it.” Spin It was repairing a 400-year-old huge windmill. I guess we’re supposed to believe these giant windmills were just lying around broken waiting for the Amazing Race to show up in Spain and fix them. More likely: they removed two blades from each specifically for the purpose of having the teams “repair” them. All teams but Trey and Lexi chose this one.

Josh and Brent are the most interesting couple. Brent is the medical doctor, right? Josh seems like such an airhead at times, so I guess opposites do attract. He looks up at the giant windmill, which is clearly missing two blades. Then they read the clue that says to “fix it.” Josh says “Looks like we have to get these two blades back on.” Thanks, Captain Obvious. Brent’s repairing brains or whatever for a living at one point and he somehow ends up with this guy. I’m sure Josh is probably smart at whatever he does too, but he does seem like the least swift of these two. Josh and Brent finally finish their windmill, after a bunch of “This is like doing [fill in the blank] at the farm!” references. An old weirdo in a goofy Don Quixote costume gives them the clue to the pit stop. Don, meet Aquadesiac.

“Bull It” was putting a bull costume on and having to bump capes with eight matadors and then send a matador dummy flying through the air at the last stop. Man, that could’ve been really funny had there been a real matador at the end. There’s nothing much funnier than seeing someone flying through the air. In fact, I wish I had seen more of this with some of the teams this season. Anyway, Trey and Lexi get all eight matadors and then for some dumb reason fail to just hit the bulls eye on the last one. Not only that, Lexi somehow smashed her finger at the same time. You’d have thought she severed the finger or something, as annoying as she was about it. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much else exciting going on with this episode. When Lexi’s smashed finger is the most exciting thing, something is going wrong here.

I am expecting MAJOR challenges for this last show next week or I will really be pissed.

Pit stop order: (Anyone else know what the hell was up with the headless woman or whatever there? Lots of weird costume wearing in Spain, apparently.)

1. Trey & Lexi
2. Jaymes & James
3. Josh & Brent (Phil: “You are like the little train that could.” That must be what the book is called in New Zealand. It’s a little engine here, Phil.)
4. Natalie & Nadiya (Non-elimination leg – Speed Bump next week)

I personally am glad that the girls are still around. Let me know who you think is going to pull this one off. See you next week for the finale!

  1. Doesn’t it seem like they have had a lot of nonelimination legs this race? Four couples in the finals is too many. The twinnies really blew this leg and should have gone home. Nadiya took one class in driving a manual and thought that it seemed easy enough? Maybe if you had a car to practice on for awhile, but obviously one lesson was not enough. Although I have NO IDEA how Josh & Brent have made it this far – they must have about a 0.5% chance of actually winning this show – and please do not bring them back as fan favorites!

And I think it’s a testament to how easy the challenges have been when Lexi breaks down in tears because she cut her finger. It probably did hurt, I’ll give her that. But really! If they had some tougher things to do throughout this Race, she might have thought a cut finger wasn’t too bad. Remember when School of Rock Mike guy and his really old Dad were stuck in the freezing cold mud, in the dark, and I think even in their underwear, digging around for one little figurine? She would have been crying a long time ago if they had more challenges like that one.

I’m still a little peeved about the twins stealing money from the rockers and sharing it with the Texans. So I guess I’m hoping the Chippendales guys take the money.
