THE AMAZING RACE – 10/2/11

October 3rd, 2011 | 7 Comments | Posted in Amazing Race 19

So at the airport everyone assumes Bill and Cathi got eliminated because they pretty much haven’t seen them since the starting gate. Don’t worry guys, they soon will be. But, alas, Bill and Cathi finally depart at 3:57am. A minute shy of 6 ½ hours after Ernie and Cindy. Holy crap! And I thought the other sites may have exaggerated how freaking slow they were…it’s even worse than that. Who knows, maybe they’ll end up taking a flight to Indiana instead of Indonesia or something and we’ll just never see them again. In their defense, even Bill and Cathi kind of get it. They say: “We’re not toast YET.” Even they know they suck at this.

We’re back to the airport after Bill and Cathi have arrived. Jenna so diplomatically says she is actually glad that Bill and Cathi are still in the race because the more people here, the more that can fall behind Jenna and Ethan. Just say it like it is, Jenna. They are the suckiest suckster team out there and you know they will be one of those eliminated. That way, you only have to avoid being second to last. We get it.

Moving on to just one of my personal annoyances, Tommy says “Looks like we all boarded this bird at the same time and will all hit the ground running at the same time.” Is it just me, or is it really annoying to refer to a plane as a bird? I can’t even stand when someone refers to Thanksgiving dinner as a bird. It’s just really freaking stupid sounding. But at least a turkey is a bird, a plane isn’t. Maybe it would sound cool coming out of Maverick’s mouth on Top Gun. But it isn’t cool at all as just more of Tommy’s usual BS banter.

And….finally we’re in Indonesia. Couldn’t tell if it was Marcus or Justin, (think it was Justin) but one of those guys refers to himself running through the airport and says “I feel like OJ!” Yeah, minus the bag full of post-murder supplies, I guess. Though as annoying as Jennifer has been, we may get to see him in full OJ mode yet.

Gay guy Ron or Bill (still don’t care which is which) is next shown talking very slowly and loudly to an Indonesian train ticket clerk: Okay, if someone doesn’t understand English, talking ENGLISH very slowly and loudly will not make them more likely to comprehend, right? I’ll bet foreigners love when we act like they are hard of hearing and blow their ears off with our loud slow talk. So Ron/Bill sits there dumbing down what he is saying to Kindergarten sentences much like, “WE NEED TRAIN – TO STATION—MOST QUICKLY” in some pseudo-Asian accent. Unless you’re trying to board Thomas the Tank Engine, talking like that isn’t gonna do you any good. She’s from Indonesia, you tool, she’s not five years old or freaking deaf.

Speaking of Jennifer driving Justin to the brink of murder, I was loving the tension between these two over who was gonna make phone calls or something. Are you sure you’re not actually husband and wife because you just sounded just like my husband and I over who last changed a poopie diaper. At least this is a little enlightening for me. I see how freaking annoying chicks can be when they are just in a bad mood and whoever is in their line of sight is gonna pay for it. You know you sound crazy and ridiculous but you just keep plugging away at it. Just push her down that escalator, guy. I guess Justin just figured out that he got selected for the race because production figured out that Jennifer would be all bitch and attitude the whole time. Yep, you are the token fighters this season. Welcome aboard.

And next we’re moved on to footage from a train where Ron and Bill enlighten us that they are on the train to the next location to pick up the next clue. Well, THANKS guys! We’ve only seen 18 seasons so far. We weren’t quite sure what would happen next. Apparently there’s a prize at the end of the race too. Let us know when you find out what it is. After this ridiculously dumb dialogue, I was kind of hoping the train would just explode and we’d get to just start over with more interesting racers.

  1. great recap, I love the amazing race, but your recaps are pretty much my thoughts 🙂 for spoilers on Reality Fan Forum they have a spoiler forum that is Tweets and Facebook status while the race was going on and they try to figure out who gets eliminated where. Some what accurate last season up to the Final 5 if I remember. Can’t wait to read it next week.

  2. I’m not so interested in spoilers for this show… would rather just see it play out in the episodes each week.

Enjoyed reading this recap! But I do notice a type of animosity towards Bill and Cathi that doesn’t exist with the rest. Why, I wonder? Sure, there are a lot of dumb people on the show this time — it seems there are even more dumb ones than usual. But the Bill and Cathi thing seems to be partly related to their age.

Bill and Cathi are the token older people on this show… they always have at least one couple (or one person) who is older. Big deal! I like the way all the other couples applauded for them because they had not been eliminated in the first round. But I wondered… usually I think everybody knows who did or didn’t get eliminated, the same night they stay at the pit stop. Why not this time?

Keep up the good work on this column — it’s enjoyable to read!

  3. Hey mja,
You know, funny you mention me hitting Bill and Cathi so hard. I totally did. I kind of realized reading back over this week’s column that a lot of what I wrote at the beginning this week didn’t even really happen as expected. I mean, they did seriously rebound this week…all the stuff I wrote at the beginning of the column was based on last week’s performance. Last week they were pretty bad. But no animosity there. They seem like nice people and they obviously are better than what they showed last week. I’d say my least favorite team so far has to be the showgirls…as if that’s not obvious. I thought I hit them harder even than Bill and Cathi. When people introduce themselves by saying “We’re just so damn beautiful no one takes us seriously..blah blah blah” they have made an enemy of me.
Anyway, thanks for reading. I was afraid to look at the comments but I’m not getting torn apart here and am very grateful for that!
Glad to hear spoilers aren’t as important either…I think I could spend hours trying to find one little piece of info that isn’t even all that important.
Good question on the pitstop – I found it weird that no one knew whether Bill/Cathi had been eliminated or not…maybe AR did that just to keep the suspensse up leading into the announcement of the double elim?

  4. Thanks for the info riverme…very helpful! I went on RFF but just kept looking through the spoilers section and was getting nowhere fast. I’ll check out the Twitter/FB section.

  5. Kim, Thanks for reading and replying to our comments. I think you are doing a great job on these recaps, and I inted to keep reading!

  6. Hey! Your recap was hilarious and I loved it. Just thought I’d clarify, Andy and Tommy do some surfing in addition to snowboarding, which would be where the surfing reference came from.

I agree with mja, you’re doing a great job and I will definitely keep reading.

  7. Thanks Mja!

Also thanks Licia…I thought I was in outer space…good to know there is a surfing thing going on there too!
